R.I.P. CRT

So my monitor died on Saturday morning. It was acting strangely for some days and I knew it would happen soon. But when it did, I was somewhat unprepared because I was in the midst of preparing some things. On Friday evening, I had prepared a little Flash movie that I wanted to post as a 9/11-special as the Kotogoto index page on Monday. I tried to organize a replacement monitor from my uncle and others, but there was none available. And don't ask me why I don't just go and buy the next bext TFT. I might write a book about that later, or maybe not. Well, fact is that the Flash animation could not appear at Kotogoto, and for the same reason, there have been no Daily images since Friday.

Having a pc at home, but no chance to access it made me realize how technology's got its clutches around us at all times without us even noticing. During the weekend I was thinking a lot about the potential tons of important mails that I could receive but not be able to read. When I checked my mail at work on Monday morning, I realized that from 8 mails I got, 5 were spam, and the other three were from friends, but by no means urgent.

Anyway, I ordered a new monitor (and yes, it's a CRT, and I had to order it because no store in town sells CRT's anymore) which should arrive in two or three days. And then I will also be able to check the two cameras full of pictures that I took last weekend.

Got your new monitor yet?

You're right about technology having its clutches around us at all times!! But then, I suppose it's worth it, when you're able to do so many creative things with it...

Yes, it arrived today. Hehe, it's so much smaller than my previous one in terms of overall size! I got a 17" monitor again, but a 19" would have fitted on my desk as well because of this.

And yes, that's exactly what I think too. You can do so many creative things with computers. Actually it's pretty easy to get caught in it's clutches because you just keep learning more and more stuff. I love this, but my parents never understood why I am spending so much time with the computer. Whenever I try to explain it to them and show them some of the work I made, they look at it and say "Oh, nice", but I don't think they really understand what exactly I wam doing. They don't know a thing about computers at all. :-)

i disagree. one can be as creative without a computer. ok sure you wont have a website, but thats not really necesary. plus, i think its much more rewarding to do things the "manual" way, by having to learn and do it by trial and error than just point and click. not saying computers make things on their own. and if it wasnt by computers, i bet i would have never had many stuff done either. but still.. you know. :-)
